Our goals and objectives
The mission of our Quality Improvement program includes the following objectives:
- To implement a Quality Improvement program that effectively promotes and builds quality into the daily operations and policies of the health plan
- To continually monitor and assess member needs, patient care and services so we can ensure members are receiving quality care at the right time
- To identify and analyze opportunities for improvement with the implementation of actions and follow-up
- To encourage patient safety through seasonal member communications (for example, flu mailers)
- To provide a Patient Safety program designed to enhance safety for our members
- To ensure Aetna Better Health meets or exceeds the highest standards of quality by maintaining compliance with local, state and federal regulatory requirements and accreditation standards

Our Quality Improvement program provides many services, which include:
Offering supplemental benefits to encourage wellness, including a preventive incentive program.
- Offering providers and facilities information on safety issues.
- Keeping track of our members’ complaints about safety problems in their provider’s office or facility.
- Helping you manage you care as you move from one place to another (e.g., rehab to home).
- Teaching members what to ask their doctors during a visit.
- Reviewing medical records with providers to ensure documentation practices are maintained.
Sending you helpful postcards and newsletters about your health.
Reviewing provider offices to make sure they meet Illinois state standards.
Reviewing the quality of our services. We have clinical practice guidelines for certain conditions. If you would like a copy of these guidelines or need more information about our programs, call Member Services at 1-866-329-4701 (TTY: 711).
Reminding you and your provider about preventive health care.
Measuring your satisfaction with your provider and with your health care services.
Monitoring phone calls to make sure your call is answered quickly and you get the correct information.
Working with your doctor to make sure they get all the information they need from us to provide you with quality care.
