- Shortness of breath when you’re lying flat or that wakes you from sleep
- Quick weight gain from holding extra fluid
How to prevent heart failure
The best way to prevent heart failure is to create healthier habits. You can manage and prevent heart failure by:
- Getting a physical exam or checkup at least once a year
- Not smoking (smoking increases your risk of heart disease and heart failure)
- Managing conditions, like high blood pressure and diabetes
- Using less salt in your diet
- Reducing or managing stress
